The flight was smooth, and our transfer whisked us effortlessly to our hotel on the Palm Jumeirah. Driving onto the man-made island itself is an experience. Our suite has a huge balcony with a perfect view of the Dubai Marina skyline, all lit up against the night sky. We had a light dinner at the hotel, already impressed by the incredible service.
We went to the Burj Khalifa today. The journey up in the high-speed lift is an event in itself. From the observation deck, the city is laid out below you like a map; the scale of the buildings, roads, and islands is staggering. It’s one of those things you have to see to believe. Afterwards, we explored the cool, calm expanse of the Dubai Mall for a few hours.
Today we explored the city’s historic heart. We took a traditional Abra boat across the Dubai Creek, a refreshing and authentic experience that costs next to nothing. We wandered for hours through the Gold Souk, with its dazzling window displays, and the Spice Souk, which was a feast for the senses with its sacks of frankincense, saffron, and cinnamon.
This afternoon was truly special. A private 4×4 collected us for our Dubai private desert safari. We drove out into the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, where our expert driver took us over the beautiful, rolling dunes. We stopped to watch the sunset over the sand, a moment of absolute peace. The day ended with a superb dinner at a private camp under the stars.
Tonight’s dinner was one for the memory books. We went to Ossiano, the underwater restaurant at Atlantis, The Palm. We descended into a dining room where one wall was a giant window into the hotel’s aquarium. Watching sharks, rays, and thousands of colourful fish glide past our table as we ate was mesmerising. The food was a work of art itself, but the surreal, peaceful atmosphere of being surrounded by marine life was the real star.
A day of pure relaxation. We spent the day at a quiet, elegant beach club. We had a cabana by the pool, swam in the calm sea of the Gulf, and enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch. It was a perfect pause and a chance to simply enjoy the sun and the sophisticated, relaxed atmosphere that Dubai does so well.
We had a final, wonderful breakfast on our balcony, watching the city begin its day. Dubai’s energy is infectious. It’s a city that constantly looks to the future, making you feel like anything is possible. We leave feeling inspired and completely refreshed.
