The journey from the airport was an experience in itself, winding through rainforest and colourful villages. We arrived at our hotel, near Soufrière, to an incredible view. Our sanctuary for the week has only three walls; the fourth is completely open to a panorama of the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea. We spent the first evening in our private plunge pool, watching the stars appear.
Today we visited the Sulphur Springs. It is famously known as the world’s only drive-in volcano. We walked with a guide a short distance from the road to see the steaming, bubbling pools. Afterwards, we covered ourselves in the warm, mineral-rich mud from the nearby baths, letting it dry in the sun before washing it off. Our skin felt incredible.
We arranged a guide for the Tet Paul Nature trail of the Petit Piton. An early start meant we climbed in the cooler part of the day. The trail was challenging in parts, but our guide paced it perfectly, pointing out birds and plants. Reaching the summit, we were rewarded with a stunning view of the island and the sea below. It was a genuine achievement.
Today we visited the historic cacao estate where we learned about the journey from bean to bar. The tour was fascinating, ending with an opportunity to make our own chocolate bar. It was a simple, hands-on experience that connected us to the island’s rich agricultural heritage.
We booked one of the Saint Lucia private tours by boat for the day. Seeing the island from the water gave us a new perspective. Our captain took us along the coast to secluded bays for swimming and snorkelling. We anchored in Marigot Bay, a beautiful natural harbour, for a quiet lunch at a waterside restaurant.
This afternoon we took a gentle stroll through the Diamond Botanical Gardens. The grounds are lush and peaceful, filled with tropical flowers and trees. The path led us to the Diamond Waterfall, which changes colour throughout the year because of the mineral deposits from the volcanic spring water. It was a quiet, relaxing afternoon.
For our final evening on our luxury holiday to Saint Lucia, we sailed from Soufrière Bay on a classic catamaran. We watched the sun dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow on the Pitons. With a cool drink in hand and the sound of the waves, it was the perfect, tranquil end to a holiday of adventure and relaxation.
